School Based Traineeships

NSHS offers School Based Traineeships (SBTs) in partnership with community organisations and employers, providing additional and improved opportunities for transitioning into trade related fields of employment. What is offered is based on student expression of interest and negotiated with our partners. As part of the Senior School course selection process Year 10 students submit an Expression of Interest in a SBT Pathway as part of course counselling process. The school, Apprenticeship Support Australia and potential providers explore possible SBT availability and provision, based on Expression of Interest of Year 10 students, for the following year.

What can be offered, once negotiated, is communicated to applicable students. Some opportunities may arise during the school year and students are contacted based on their previous expressions of interest.

The following SBT’s are currently offered:

· In partnership with BHP: Cert II in Workplace Skills, Cert II in Automotive Servicing Technology and Cert II in Rail Infrastructure

· In partnership with South Newman Primary School: Cert II in Workplace Skills Cert IV in School-Based Education

· In partnership with Newman Community Centre: Cert II in Community Studies

Both SBTs and Certificates require students to follow an application process.
